Breitenbach said students really can't expect to score 100 percent on material they are learning the night before, but getting a study guide and focusing on that material will put them in the right direction.
Janet O'Riley, director of community education, suggested getting into study groups.
"If you can get a group of students from your class together to study with, you can be successful," she said. "I have found that study groups are a great way for students to gain a better understanding of the information. Usually in a study group, someone will either ask a question you hadn't thought of or they will be able to answer a question you may have."
O'Riley said it's best to form a study group early in the semester and use it as a tool for success.
"Knowing other students and being able to bounce ideas and questions off one another is a great way to not only understand the information enough to pass the test, but also to be able to use and apply it throughout your life," O'Riley said.
Studying and preparing for exams may only be one challenge students are facing as finals approach. Many students are also trying to pack to move home as well as clean their apartments, and find time to say goodbye to friends all during finals week.
Russell Petersen, an undecided major from Manti, is concerned that he simply won't have enough time to accomplish everything he needs to do well on his exams and still move out on time.
"If all I had to do the last week of the semester was study, I would have no stress, but I also have to clean my apartment to perfection, move out, and still find time to get all my assignments done and take the exams," Petersen said.
Petersen said he plans on getting as much as he can done this week in an effort to alleviate some of the stress.
"I think that if I focus this week on completing all assignments and start working on my packing, the week of finals I should be able to focus on my tests, cleaning and saying goodbye to everyone," Petersen said.
The last week of finals may be challenging, but with a little planning and hard work, students can plan on having success.
"My professors have all been very helpful, and I know that if I need any assistance I can go to them for help," Petersen said. "I appreciate how willing they are to work with me."
