Finals are upon us and whether you are prepared or not, the time to perform well is here.
As finals week approaches, many students may find themselves feeling stressed, anxious or even too excited to take the necessary steps to study for finals. However, taking some time to focus and study may be just what is needed for students to ace their final exams.
Here are some tips students have found to be useful in passing their final exams with flying colors.
Tim McMahon, a junior integrated studies major from Littleton, Colo., has learned over time that passing finals takes more that just studying for them the night before.
"I have found that the best way to be successful on my finals is to have spent the entire semester preparing for them," McMahon said. "I used to just try and cram everything we had done all semester into one night. It didn't take too long before I realized that this wasn't going to work. Now, I try to attend every class session possible. I take notes and read the chapter before attending class. That way, I am able to come prepared for class with any questions I may have about the material. After class, I review the material again to make sure I really understand it."
McMahon said by preparing throughout the semester, he has been able to walk into the exam feeling confident.
He said: "I know that I am prepared. I know what to expect, and I don't have to be anxious about the test. Just the peace of mind of knowing I had done all I could to be ready helps me perform better on the test."
Preparation throughout the semester is vital for success on finals, but taking steps the weeks leading up to exams can be important too.
Tiffanee Breitenbach, a junior communication major from Thompson Falls, Mont., said students can still be successful on finals even if they aren't as prepared as they should be.
"I know I should spend a lot of time preparing throughout the semester for finals, but between balancing marriage, work and school, sometimes it's just impossible," Breitenbach said. "I would like to say that I have attended every class session and done everything I could to make finals week easier on myself, but the reality is, I'm going to end up cramming for them the night before."
