An "udderly" unique event known as Cow Pies For Kenya is making its second annual appearance on the Encampment Mall Thursday.

The event is a cow-themed carnival and service project coordinated by the Ambassadors of Dixie State College. The proceeds from the carnival go to the Warm Hearts Foundation to help build fresh water wells in Kenya.

Service Vice President Chelsea Gould, a junior nursing major from Orem, said, "We raised just over $1,500 last year and received an anonymous donation, which made it so we actually raised enough for one water well."

Each fresh water well constructed in Kenya costs $2,500.

Donna Stafford, director of student activities, said: "The most success of last year was the fact that by the time they were done they were able to purchase the well for Kenya, but I think the other success is that it's a fun activity that draws the campus together and is very unique."

The entrance cost to the carnival is $5, which allows for all access to the games as well as becoming eligible for the main event. A few of the games available are cow pie your professor, pin the udder on the cow, cow pie walk, udder destruction, and a cow pie eating contest. There are many prizes available for winning the carnival games.

The main event will take place around 6 p.m. on the Encampment Mall. Prior to the start of the carnival, the mall will be made into a grid of one-yard squares. With the purchase of a ticket into the carnival, each person will be given ownership of one square and made eligible to win the grand prize.

During the festivities of the carnival, a cow will be hanging out in the mall doing its business.

Student Body President Dewey Denning, a senior communication major from Iona, Idaho, said: "They will also have a fence around the mall so that the cow doesn't run out everywhere. The cow escaped last year and Chelsea Gould had to chase it down. Luckily it was just a little guy and she caught it pretty quickly."

The grand prize for this year's carnival is yet to be announced. An iPod was awarded to last year's winner. Admissions Adviser Drew McIntyre said the prize would be at least the equivalent of the iPod, if not better. The grand prize winner will be determined by whichever square the cow decides to make a cow pie in.
