Students often find themselves awake at late hours of the night and when the hunger pains come, believe it or not, St. George restaurants haven't shut down completely.

With research papers, mid-terms, study groups and exams, "early to bed" is not a familiar term. For students up at late hours, late-night fuel may be necessary for continued studying. When that time comes, food is still available in the sleeping city.

Junior Josh Lamb, an engineering major from Orderville, is up every night until about 1 a.m.

"Either I'm awake watching Glenn Beck with my roommates at midnight, or I'm doing last minute business homework because of my procrastination," he said. "At least once on weekends I'm out looking for something to eat late at night because I've got to eat every six hours or so, even if it's late."

Lamb said Roberto's Taco Shop is the place to go when he needs a 4 or 5 a.m. food run when he's getting back from Mesquite late at night. He said a lot of his friends used to hit Del Taco late at night, and he suggested In-N-Out Burger as well.

Restaurants open until midnight on weekends includes: Ruby Tuesday, Spoon Me, Wingstop, IHOP, Krave and Jimmy John's.

Freshman Chance Steglich, a computer information technology major from Hurricane, said when he's up late he is usually writing a paper, studying or playing "Madden" or "Call of Duty" on Xbox.

"Procrastinating is never worth it, but when I do procrastinate I'm staying up all night to get a project done," he said. "When I do that I need a food run to give me energy again and to keep my mind off sleep for a little bit."

Steglich said Denny's would be his No. 1 choice since he loves breakfast food at any hour of the morning. But if he can't eat Denny's, he said studying makes him crave a beef burrito from Alberto's.

"I think it's a wise business move to be open late," he said. "There are always a handful of people there when I'm there late, and there are just a few people working. That way they aren't paying a lot of wages."

Lamb also said businesses can make a profit out of staying open later.

"I think if a business makes enough money to stay open and make a profit, then why not stay open all night," he said.

Restaurants open until 1 a.m. on weekends include: Players Sports Grill, Taco Bell, In-N-Out (1:30 a.m.) and Village Inn.

However, if all else fails and you find yourself requiring grub after 1 a.m., Denny's, Alvaros Mexican Food and McDonald's are open 24 hours for your convenience.
