Dear Kate,
I have met a new woman and I want to make that "good first impression" with her while on a date. I don't want to do the same boring typical date activities such as dinner and a movie. What would be some great original ideas for such a date? Thanks!

Dear Lookin' For That Creative Spark,
You are so right. Creativity goes a long way when dating. Steering clear of "the same old boring thing" will definitely set you apart and make a fabulous first impression. With the weather getting colder a special sort of ingenuity is imperative since you can't rely on outdoorsy fallbacks. The following are a few ideas to help you get your own creativity flowing. Feel free to borrow any you like.
As typical as dinner and a movie are during the winter, it isn't such a bad idea. All it takes is a little twist to make it exciting and new. How about renting a movie and making dinner together with a theme that matches the movie? For instance, you could rent "The Proposal," which is fantastic, and prepare dinner together with a mish mash of Alaskan and New York cuisine. Another idea is to rent "Ocean's Eleven" and make all the different things that Brad Pitt munches on during the film. One advantage of hosting the film at your place is that you can carry on a movie conversation without fear of bothering any movie goers around, since it will just be the two of you. Not to mention the possibility of cuddling. Bonus!
Why not try a coffee shop picnic? Pick a shop with big comfy chairs and experience the java scene together. If either one of you isn't a mocha fan, most coffee shops have hot chocolate and apple cider beverages as well as other options for the coffee-free lifestyle. This sort of date offers the chance to get to know one another in a more conversational setting. There is usually terrific people watching available as well.
Another wonderful opportunity would be to catch an off-off-off-off Broadway show, otherwise known as community theater. When was the last time you checked out a local theater? We are fortunate in St. George to have a lot of different options available in the live performances category. You could even expand this idea to any live entertainment event. There are a number of dance troupes and musicians who make an appearance in town this time of year. I'd be very impressed on a date like that.
