Board of Regents must start search for new president
Dixie Sun Staff
Issue date: 11/16/09 Section: Opinion
We understand the board of regents has a full plate, but just because there are other schools that need its attention doesn't mean our institution is any less important.
The regents do themselves no favors amongst the locals by dismissing phone calls from this college newspaper. We will not be ignored. Students and faculty have the right to know their board of
regents is acting on their behalf, which is currently something that doesn't seem to be happening. The cloak and dagger secrecy and silence surrounding the board's failure to act only gives the impression of having something to hide.
What does it take to get a response from the board of regents? How many phone calls need to be made before action is taken to put a president in place who isn't here just to help us out for the time being? The board would command much more respect if it came out publicly and just admitted that DSC isn't, nor will it be anytime soon, a priority.
It took more than eight attempts to elicit a response from the public relations representative from the board of regents. This behavior isn't gaining popularity among DSC students. Our questions have been dodged and ignored long enough. The board members' failure to give us an expedient response is downright shameful.
The board exists to promote the interests of its constituent students. Our job description isn't to hound them to give us a permanent president; however, their job description is to facilitate us with that president, something they've been dragging their feet on for too long now.
To the board of regents: Please fulfill your duty to us and start building up any respect you think you deserve for yourselves. Start the process for nailing down a permanent president, and keep the
student body informed as this process unfolds.

The board of regents seems to be sitting on its hands when it comes to discussing.
